A better kind of protein for women
There is no shortage of protein products on the market. Walk into any supermarket, health shop or gym and you will see shelves full of bars, powders and drinks promising strength, performance and better macros. Protein has become one of the most talked-about nutrients in modern nutrition, and for good reason. It plays an important role in muscle maintenance, energy and overall health.
But if you look closely, most of those products were never really designed with women in mind!
The protein world was not built for women
For years, the world of protein has been shaped by gym culture and performance marketing. The messaging is built around muscle gain, body transformation and athletic performance. Those things matter to some women, of course, but they are not the full picture of women’s health, and they certainly do not reflect the realities of most women’s daily lives.
Women’s bodies are complex and constantly changing. Hormones fluctuate across the menstrual cycle. Energy needs shift depending on stress, sleep and activity levels. Life stages such as pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopause all bring their own physiological changes.
Yet the nutrition products available to women often ignore these realities entirely, offering generic formulas repackaged with softer branding.
Bo was created because we believe women deserve better than that.
Nutrition that reflects real life
Protein is a valuable part of that picture, but it is only part of the story. The type of protein used matters, especially as some animal-derived proteins may not suit everyone and can be harder to digest for some individuals.
When combined with minerals such as potassium, calcium and chromium, as well as other carefully selected ingredients, it can support more than muscle alone. It can contribute to macronutrient metabolism, the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels, digestive function, connective tissue and the overall systems that keep the body functioning well!
For us, that broader perspective was the starting point for everything at Bo.
Moving away from diet culture
Another thing we felt strongly about was moving away from the kind of messaging that has dominated wellness for years. Too many nutrition brands rely on guilt, restriction or unrealistic ideas about “perfect” health. That language does not reflect how most people actually live.
Real life includes busy mornings, late meetings, unexpected cravings, and the occasional pizza night. Good nutrition should fit into that reality, not fight against it!
Bo is designed with that philosophy in mind. We focus on thoughtful ingredients and flavours that feel genuinely enjoyable rather than purely functional. Because if something is meant to be part of your daily routine, it should be something you actually want to eat.
Let’s talk about women’s health
We are also interested in changing how conversations around women’s health happen in the nutrition space. Energy dips, cravings, weight changes, PMS, skin changes and perimenopause are all normal parts of many women’s lives, yet they are often treated as awkward topics or avoided altogether.
We think women deserve clearer information and more honest conversations about what is happening in their bodies.
Bo is only one small step in that direction, but it is an important one for us.
This is just the beginning
Our goal is simple. To create nutrition that feels intelligent, supportive and grounded in real life. Something that acknowledges the complexity of women’s bodies without turning that complexity into confusion. And something that tastes good enough that you actually want to keep coming back to it.
This launch is just the beginning. Over time, we hope Bo becomes not only a place for thoughtfully formulated products, but also a place where women can learn more about how nutrition fits into the bigger picture of their health.
Because when it comes to women’s bodies, generic solutions rarely make sense. And protein should never feel generic.
